Disney HSM franchise heads to theaters

According to the Disney Channel, their Emmy Award–winning original movie "High School Musical" (HSM) has been seen by over 250 million viewers worldwide since its debut in 2006. During the summer of 2007, Disney broke yet another record by capturing the largest audience ever for a basic-cable telecast when 18.2 million viewers tuned into "High School Musical 2", followed by equally staggering success for its soundtrack, which topped the charts as the No. 2 album of 2007 in the US at 6.5 million units. This year, Disney will raise the bar once again with "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" (HSM3), the first major motion picture release of the HSM series now in final production and due in US theaters October 24th.

Digital Performer 6.01 now shipping

And the Oscar goes to... Dario Marianelli

At the 80th Academy Awards this past Sunday, Italian born composer and MOTU user Dario Marianelli won the Oscar for Best Music (Original Score) for Atonement (2008, Focus Features), starring Keira Knightley and James McAvoy. This is Dario's second nomination and his first Oscar. Dario was first nominated for Best Music (Original Score) for his soundtrack for Pride & Prejudice (2005, Focus Features). Dario also recently won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score for Atonement. As a prolific award-winning composer of piano, orchestral and film music, Dario uses Digital Performer, MachFive and MOTU audio interfaces in his studio.

Al Kooper visits MOTU at AES Show in New York

Musician, producer and composer Al Kooper made an appearance at the MOTU booth at the Audio Engineering Society (AES) show in New York City last week to give a one-hour presentation on his composing and production techniques using Digital Performer, MachFive and other MOTU products. Kooper played tracks in progress for his up-coming album and offered key insights into his creative process to a standing-room only crowd.
