Using CueMix with two MOTU FireWire interfaces

You can monitor two FireWire CueMix devices through the Main Outs of one interface. To do this, you need two FireWire CueMix capable devices, such as two 828mk2s, two 896HDs, or one of each. This procedure also applies to monitoring a FireWire and a PCI-424 based interface together through one stereo pair.

For this example, we'll assume an 896HD and an 828mk2, and that you will be monitoring from the 828mk2:

  • Connect any output pair on the 896HD to an input pair on the 828mk2. We'll say Analog 7-8 Out on 896HD into Analog 7-8 In on 828mk2.
  • In the FireWire CueMix Console for 896HD, set up a mix of your inputs and set the output of the bus to be Analog 7-8. For the CueMix Console for the 828mk2, set the faders for Analog 7-8 to 0 dB and pan them hard left and hard right. Set the output of the bus to Main Out 1-2.
  • Now, in the CueMix console for the 828mk2, set the faders for the rest of your inputs.
  • You should now hear all of your inputs through the Main Outs of the 828mk2 with near-zero latency monitoring.
