HD Express is now shipping
At the 2010 NAB Show in Las Vegas last week, MOTU unveiled the HD Express, a compact video interface for Final Cut Pro on the Mac and Premiere Pro on Windows. The HD Express is now shipping and in stock (or soon to be in stock) at MOTU broadcast video product resellers worldwide. Essentially, the HD Express is a more compact, affordable "little brother" to the HDX-SDI, with a streamlined feature set perfect for HDMI®, component and even legacy SD workflows.
The HD Express shares many of the same underlying features as the HDX-SDI. For example, it uses the same PCIe card or ExpressCard/34 adapter to connect to towers and laptops, respectively. As with the HDX-SDI, both adapters are available for purchase separately.
Or, you could purchase one of each: the HDX-SDI for SDI workflows that involve synchronization and other advanced features, and the HD Express for simple HDMI capture or monitoring in pristine pixel-for-pixel 720 or 1080 HD. You can then swap the two breakout boxes between your desktop computer and laptop computer, for ultimate flexibility.
The HD Express is perfect for pristine, pixel-for-pixel HDMI monitoring, with broadcast quality 10-bit 4:2:2 color depth and ASC CDL color grading.
The HD Express is also great for capturing HDMI from a camcorder. Many of today's cameras, including the new Sony "NX" series and the JVC GY-HM100U, output their signal via HDMI before it hits the camara's compression chip, so you can capture absolutely pristine quality HD either uncompressed or directly to your host codec of choice, without first suffering the lost image quality imposed by the camera's own compression.

The HD Express currently provides full support for Final Cut Pro 6.0.5 or higher on Mac OS X.
